Construction Tech
I

About:

Construction Technologies I is a class that focuses on exciting hands-on learning that will be useful throughout students’ lives. Emphasis in this course is placed on operating and maintaining power equipment in a safe fashion. Much of the experience is gained through lab experience and project completions. The students will do three major projects to be completed at the end of the second, third and fourth grading periods. Construction Technologies has adopted the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) This curriculum is nationally recognized.


The Curriculum of this Course Includes:


1. Woodworking

Students will learn the many aspects of woodworking. Students will be able to use machinery and other power equipment tools with an emphasis on safety. Students will gain proficiency in equipment usage through an exciting in-class project.


2. Construction Technology

Students will learn how to measure and to read a tape measure, to cut actual lumber sizes, to read blueprints as well as doing scale drawings (blueprints), purchasing/estimate lumber, and finish the work to be used in a house to be sold.

II

Prerequisite:

Woodworking I and II


About:

Construction Technologies II is a class that focuses on exciting hands-on learning that will be useful throughout students’ lives. Greater emphasis in this course is placed upon designing projects and coming up with solutions of how to construct. Shop safety and shop tools are reviewed at the beginning of this course. This is a more open-shop atmosphere where students are given opportunities to display their abilities through the work that they complete. Major projects to be completed are a project of their choosing with approval of the instructor.


The Curriculum of this Course Includes:


1. Woodworking/ Cabinetry

Students will explore further the many aspects of woodworking. Students will be able to use machinery and other power equipment tools with an emphasis on safety. Students will gain proficiency in equipment usage through exciting in-class projects.


2. Construction Technology

Students will learn all aspects of home building: plumbing, electrical, roofing, siding, drywall, doing trim work, reading blue prints, purchasing/estimating lumber, and doing the internal and external construction of a house.

III

Credit :2

Grade: 10-12

Periods: 2

Prerequisite:

Construction Tech I and II

About:

This course will encourage students to learn higher-level construction and woodworking skills.


This class is a culmination of what the students have learned in the previous construction classes. This will consist of two periods of construction technologies. The students will be gaining more in-depth knowledge on concepts and skill taught during the previous two courses.
