About:

Medical Technology I will provide a variety of learning experiences designed to assist the student to make an informed career choice. Career exploration will be interwoven with topics relevant to all health careers, such as the history of health care, qualities of a health care worker, legal and ethical issues, safety and nutrition. Students in Med Tech I will learn to take vital signs and become certified in both Heartsaver CPR and first aid.


What is Med Tech?

Medical Technology (Med Tech) is a 3-course program appropriate for any students interested in pursuing a medical career. This class will help prepare the student for an entry-level position in a health care facility and will help broaden their knowledge to allow them to excel in post-secondary education related to any medically-oriented career.

About:

Content in Med Tech II includes medical terminology, medical math, growth and development, cultural diversity, infection control, and anatomy and physiology as it relates to the medical field. Students in Med Tech II will become certified in Bloodborne Pathogens.


Certification for
Students

Students enrolled in Med Tech will earn certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens. Students who select the Nurse Aide clinical experience option in Med Tech III will be eligible to take the State of Ohio Nurse Aide Test to become an STNA (State-tested Nurse Aide).

About:

Med Tech III prepares the student for various health career pathways and includes a one-semester internship ideal for any student wishing to pursue further training in a health care profession.

Note:

Students will not attend a formal class second semester. Instead, they will work a minimum of 15 hours per week at a related internship. Transportation is necessary. MTIII students will become certified in CPR for Healthcare Providers.
